The Neolithic
Although we have a few scraps of evidence relating to the Neolithic (the best being the tip from a broken polished stone axe found in one of the Test Pits in 1997), so far we have not uncovered any evidence that suggests that the cave was occupied. It is likely that people were living nearby, as the soils are light and sandy – which is very unusual in Cheshire – and we have found a few lithics that do not appear to be Palaeolithic, Mesolithic or Bronze Age in date.
