Having reached Kent, the Cosmographer seems to have realised that he had omitted a group of names from the north-eastern coast of England, so he jumps back there without explanation. This straightforward part of the list gives Alauna, the Aln (Ekwall 1928, 5), and a conflation of *Coccuueda, the Coquet (despite the reservations of Ekwall 1928, 93, it is a Celtic name: Rivet & Smith 1979, 311), and what is probably to be read as Isurium, Aldborough, although why this should have been misread as a river-name in Northumberland is not at all clear. However, that it was omitted in the place-name section suggests that some confusion as to its status was evident in the source.
